Vessel 1 early stages March 2004 This is the first vessel begun in March of 2004. The vessel is "greenware" meaning it has not been fired but is bone dry. Many ceramicists work in "leather hard" clay, carving and piercing the piece. Working it when bone dry, while the piece is very fragile, allows me to do more intricate piercings as the clay will support itself.

As I explore new forms that take shape under my
hand, I am very aware of the stress put on the piece with
every new piercing and carved relief. The vessel is
handled with great care at all stages but particularly at
this point when the clay has not been fired. After firing,
I begin to embellish each work with beads or gold leaf to
further enhance it's spiritual nature.
These are views of the finished piece with Swarovski crystals and interior beadwork as tears. 2005

![]() Birth Vessel interior with gold leaf application |
The third in this series of vessels refers to birth and the womb. Red as the color of blood is the color of life. I am enhancing this piece with gold leaf. The references in all these pieces are to my dreams and feminine sensitivities. |
